Provincial Vocations Office
Formation Year (FY) 2013-2014 banishes swiftly like thin air. A few months ago, the vocation teams were like bees buzzing around for school campaigns, week-end search-ins, discernment reflections, retreats, and vocation workshops.
We can now relax from personal interviews and psycho-social profiling. The physical stress from the gruesome schedule of home visitations is gone. The candidates’ deliberation with the Seminary Admission Board concluded the Vocation Campaign Year with twelve 4th year High School lads accepted. It was indeed a relief.

We may have a lean harvest this year. But we are still thankful that God has given us twelve young men who initially responded to his call. The team believes that it is God who calls. “I have called you by name: you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1. The vocation team is just facilitating the discovery and nurturing of that call.
Young Professionals (YP) Program: “Come and See” John 1:39
“Come and See” program is designed to help the Young Professional -pre-aspirants- in their on-going vocation discernment as to whether they are called by Christ the Redeemer to become Redemptorist Missionaries. This is done through initial immersion to the Redemptorist community life and apostolates especially the Redemptorist mission.
This year’s “Come and See” community life and Parish exposure (April 7-12, 2014) will be in Cebu and the Mission exposure (April 20, 2014) will be in Tacloban. We hope this whole process will help a candidate make an informed decision about our missionary life before he will finally join the Aspirancy this coming June 2014.
Prior to this program, a series of Discernment Reflections and Tests were held at the local level. The qualified candidates from each AU were sent to Cebu for the Discernment Retreat. There were two Discernment Retreats (Nov 2013 and Feb 2014) held at the Redemptorist Holy Family Retreat House (HRRH-HF) with a total of 12 participants. The retreat was directed by our very competent Spiritual Director Fr. Martin Tobin, CSsR, with Fr. Cruz Manding, C.Ss.R. as resource speaker. Some senior members of the Holy Redeemer Formation Center (HRFC) were on hand to assist in the interviews.
After the Discernment Retreat, the series of tests, home visitations, and personal interviews, out of the 12 participants only 4 are advised to join the “Come and See” Community and Mission Exposure. They are:
1.) Roy Nabong – Butuan City
2.) Dennis Galan – Guimaras, Iloilo City
3.) Ruel Bayabos- Tagakpan, Davao City
4.) Junedel Pinatacan- Tambulig, Zamboanga Del Norte
I’m quite confident in saying, that the vocations team has done its part. Now it’s over to the formation team, with God’s grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to mold them into future Redemptorist Missionaries. The Vocation Team wishes to thank the communities for their avid support for our vocation program. We continue to pray for more vocations as, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” Mt 9:38
