Icon Visits Bacolod
By Reynwil Jan Casuyon (Postulant)
After Iloilo, the OMPH Pilgrim Icon then proceeded to Bacolod City. Devotees gathered in the port of Bacolod to welcome the Pilgrim Icon. The welcome was followed by a motorcade that brought the icon around the city via a vintage car. The motorcade concluded in the former Redemptorist Church in North Drive.
The Pilgrim Icon was welcomed with a short rite, followed by a novena and the celebration of the Eucharist presided by Rev. Fr. Edwin Bacaltos C.Ss.R. and other priests. After the Mass and public veneration, the Pilgrim Icon was brought to Scala Retreat House There was an enthronement of the Pilgrim Icon, followed by a novena and then the Eucharist which was presided by Rev. Fr. Julius Martin C.Ss.R. After the mass, a vigil followed. The postulants took active participation in the preparation as well as in leading the prayer service together with the active youth of Scala.
OMPH Devotees flocked the chapel until past midnight. They were there to be with our mother, to venerate and gaze at the icon of our mother. Some offered Prayers and Petitions. Others brought their icons and rosaries to be blessed.
A few minutes past midnight, the chapel was closed. And the Icon was kept and prepared for its next trip going to Davao City. I felt so blessed to witness so many people and devotees of our Mother of Perpetual Help who came to pay their respects. As our founder St. Alphonsus Maria de Ligouri said, “Mary obtains salvation for all who have recourse to her. If all sinners had recourse to Mary, who would ever be lost? He who is protected by her will be saved; he who is not will be lost.”
