Eastern Visayas Mission

Currently the Eastern Visayas Redemptorist Mission Team is having its mission at the Chaplaincy of the Miraculous Medal, Sabang, Borongan City. The chaplaincy has 10 barangays, an Island, and 3 in the mountain areas-which can only be accessed by crossing a river.

The Mission opened on October 1, 2016 with the theme: “Pokawon ngan Pakusgon an Pagtoo han Kristohanon nga Katilingban” (To awaken and strengthen the faith of the Christian Community). The mission will continue until Holy Week and will be concluded during the Easter Vigil Mass.

There was a talk given by Redemptorists, at 9 o’clock in the morning. This was followed by the celebration of the mass by the Bishop of the Diocese of Borongan, Bp. Crispin Varquez DD. at Sabang Chaplaincy, 27th of November, 2016.

Regular mission activities include: organizing the community/ barangays into groups of 10- 12 family groups as an initial approach of organizing the Basic Ecclesial Community, inputs and reflections during daily masses, celebration of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and of the Eucharist, promotion of the devotion to our Mother of Perpetual Help, organizing activities for the youth, Bible Sharing, and Home Visitations.

In the Island Barangay of Ando, the team also conducted the celebration for the blessing of boats and fishing gears while in the mountain area blessing of root crops and of the tools for farming.

Due to the need of our present area, the team facilitated and celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation (for candidates for Mass Wedding), and of Matrimony in every barangay.

2Volunteer Confreres
Fr. Emy Maningo, C.Ss.R. joined our Mission in Barangay San Mateo on the last keek of November to the first week of December. Fr. Ernie Garcia, C.Ss.R. also volunteered to preside the Misa de Gallo Masses and the Christmas Day Mass at Ando Island.

The mission team is inviting confreres to volunteer for the celebration of the Holy Week 2017.
