RYM Iloilo Celebrates NYD
By Angelo Luis Verdeflor (Lay Staff)
“Misa de Gallo, sa t’wing pasko, nagdarasal ang bawat tao, at nagpapasalamat sa pagsilang ng Diyos na Hari ng mundo.” This is a very familiar song that we sing in anticipation for the nativity of Christ, the Savior of the world. The song is also a loud reminder that the season of Christ’s birth has come again this year, a time for us to rejoice and give thanks.
Once again it is the Christmas season and people are busy preparing for the holidays. December 16 has arrived and we, as faithful people, wake up at 4:00 o’clock in the morning to go to church and celebrate the first day of the Aguinaldo Mass. Today also happens to be the celebration of the National Youth Day in the Philippines this year. Different youth organizations all over the Philippines unite as one in celebrating this day for young people.
The Redemptorist Youth Ministry (RYM) Iloilo took an active part in the celebration of the first day of Misa de Gallo by being one of the sponsoring groups of the first day of the Aguinaldo Mass. Young people from RYM Iloilo offered themselves and took a dynamic participation during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Rhea Jane Pabilla, the Goal Animator of RYM Iloilo inspired her fellow youth and the churchgoers by sharing her life experiences as a youth member of the ministry during the homily part of the mass. There was also a special blessing for the youth. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that half of those who came were young people. Other RYM youth ministers offered an animation after the final blessing.
It was such a meaningful celebration of the Eucharist because today we celebrated two meaningful festivities. In this season of Christmas, we are grateful for the Lord for giving us His Son to be our Savior. We are also grateful for the gift of young people to the church whose desire to minister to their fellow young people is burning. We pray that they may always find inspiration to serve others and that they may persevere.
